Why I chose to move to Park Place Retirement

Gloria’s journey to Park Place Retirement began after a meaningful season of change. Having lived in her home in Tavistock while raising her family, she began to feel lonely once her children were grown and living on their own. After visiting several retirement communities, Park Place stood out as the place that felt most like home.

A smooth and welcoming transition

Because Gloria truly wanted this next chapter, her transition was easy. She felt ready for something new—especially the chance to build friendships and become part of a welcoming community.

My favourite part of life here

Gloria loves how full each day feels. She enjoys participating in programs, sharing wonderful meals with friends at her table, and knowing there is always something meaningful to look forward to.

Activities I enjoy and staying connected

Morning exercise helps her start the day with energy, while bingo, socials, music, and quiet time spent reading all bring her joy. She especially enjoys themed events like Blue Jays nights organized by team members such as Kathy, where snacks and shared excitement create special memories.

Advice for someone considering retirement living

Gloria would wholeheartedly recommend retirement living. After a lifetime of working, raising a family, and caring for a home, she appreciates being able to relax and enjoy life while meals, laundry, and housekeeping are thoughtfully taken care of.

The meaningful work and connections that shaped my life

Family has always been at the heart of Gloria’s story. She grew up on a farm with six brothers and later raised four boys of her own. She speaks with deep love about her husband and children, who remain the most meaningful parts of her life.

Who inspires me now

Laughter inspires Gloria most. She loves to have fun, make others smile, and find humour in everyday moments. Staying busy and active is important to her, and she brings warmth and joy to the friendships she has formed.

Rediscovering friendship and connection

Since moving in, Gloria has rediscovered the simple happiness of friendship and connection. She makes a point to talk with everyone, share laughs, and help others feel included—just as she has been made to feel.

How life has changed for the better

Before coming to Park Place, Gloria spent much of her time alone. Today, her days are filled with activity, companionship, and purpose. She sums it up in one word: busy. And for Gloria, being busy means she is no longer alone.
