Why I chose to move to Park Place Retirement

Wayne’s move to Park Place Retirement came after the passing of his wife in 2022. Living alone, he needed more support with meals, care, and daily living than he could manage on his own. Moving to Park Place provided the safety, comfort, and assistance he needed.

People welcomed me just as I am

Wayne’s transition was smooth because he understood the change was necessary. Accepting support opened the door to a new chapter where he could feel secure, cared for, and surrounded by others again.

The people make this home

What Wayne appreciates most is the staff. He describes them as kind, helpful, and fun, bringing warmth and positivity into each day and restoring a hopeful outlook.

Activities I enjoy and staying connected

Staying connected to family is especially important, and his computer brings him great joy. Through Skype, he can see and speak with loved ones, keeping those relationships close. He also continues to watch church services online, finding comfort in his faith and church music

Advice for someone considering retirement living

Wayne advises others to take time to think it through and involve family in the decision. Starting something new can be difficult, but knowing familiar faces and having support makes the transition easier.

A lifetime of stories to share

Born in 1933, Wayne grew up on a 300-acre family farm in Merlin, Ontario, representing the third generation to care for the land. He later owned a farm in Norwich before beginning a long career in municipal service with the Township of East Oxford as Clerk-Treasurer and later in administrative leadership within the Township of Oxford. He is a proud father of three children.

Music has always been meaningful to him. He sang in a quartet and choir in Chatham and Woodstock, and church music continues to stir treasured memories.

What inspires me now

Wayne finds inspiration in his Christian faith, his family, and the encouragement he receives daily from staff and fellow residents.

Friendship found me again

A touching moment for Wayne was receiving recognition during a Connected Through Kindness event, when Kathy presented him with an award. The experience reminded him how valued and appreciated he is within the community.

Feeling happier, connected and completely myself

Wayne says the staff at Park Place have made a profound difference in his life, giving him encouragement, care, and renewed positivity. Although he once considered another residence, he feels grateful to have found a place where he is supported, respected, and truly at home.
